Colonna
The famous proprietor of Colonna, Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, needs no introduction. His coffee journey started around ten years ago. Since then, Maxwell’s enthusiasm for coffee has led him to win the title of UK Barista Champion three times. Alongside his current Bath coffee store (Colonna & Smalls), this Colona coffee roasting firm was established only a few years ago. Colonna provides a rotating selection of four fascinating categories of specialty coffee beans: “Foundation”, “Discovery”, “Rare,” and “Decaf”.
“Foundation” offers high-quality, clean, and fragrant specialty coffee that will certainly suit all customers. “Discovery” explores the limits of what good coffee can be, by investigating processing techniques and displaying various coffee options that are intended to challenge our preset idea of this beverage. Meanwhile, “Rare” and “Decaf” offer exceptional lots and rare coffee types, such as geisha, from award-winning fields that have been expertly processed to provide a deliciously nuanced cup of coffee.
Colonna has also created capsules that are compatible with the Nespresso system and have been rigorously tested to provide the best pod coffee possible. It is indeed one of the best specialty coffee roasters in the UK!

Square Mile
Square Mile, situated in London and operated by Anette Moldvaer and James Hoffmann, is one of the top players in specialty coffee roasting. James gained his well-deserved prominence after winning the 2007 World Barista Championship and co-founded the roastery with Anette the following year. Indeed, Square Mile is not just prominent in the United Kingdom, but also internationally!
Due to Square Mile’s exceptional attention to every detail in all aspects of their business, receiving a box of their specialty coffee is always a treat. The coffees are high-quality and always satisfy their receivers. The bags also arrive in larger-than-usual 350g packets, allowing you to really dig in after you have perfected your brewing technique!
Even better, James Hoffmann has a channel on youtube with one new video clip published every week. If you are even somewhat curious about the world of roasting coffee, you should have a look at this interesting channel!

James Gourmet
“James Gourmet” coffee roaster is another well-received and high-quality contender on our list. “James Gourment” was established in 1999. It is currently headquartered in the Herefordshire market town of Ross-on-Wye.
People’s first impression of “James Gourmet” is that, unlike other rivals, it is an independent family-run enterprise. James Gourmet might not seem to be as polished in its presentations as some of the other roasters, but don’t let that mislead you! In fact, James Gourmet is a highly regarded coffee roaster that can be found at some of the top cafe shops in the United Kingdom, including the legendary Prufrock in London. This roaster provides an extensive variety of coffees, including single-origin, mix, and organic varieties. The pricing is also quite reasonable, and specialty coffee is the typical offering.
Even better, the firm invests in recyclable packages and uses Europe’s first eco-roaster, which many environmentalists appreciate. Combine that with the high-quality roasting technique, and you have a winning combination!

Has Bean
Has Bean is an all-time favorite of UK coffee lovers (as well as the owners of many cafe businesses) around the nation. What we like most about the manager, Steve Leighton, is that he’s just a regular guy who loves coffee. No pretension is present!
Since early boyhood, when he requested a filtered coffee machine from his parents, Steve has harbored a peculiar relationship with coffee. A few years later, dissatisfied with his career – and the fact that he was forced to work many jobs at the same time – Steve had the insight to transform his coffee passion into a career. From modest beginnings at a market booth in Staffordshire, Steve has risen to turn into one of the most well-known coffee roasters ever in the nation.
Has Bean provides a vast variety of specialty coffees to suit all preferences, which is what keeps clients going back day after day. Dale Harris, the 2017 Global Barista Champion, is a part of the crew at Has Bean. And Dale has won the tournament with Has Bean’s perfectly roasted coffee, of course! All these reasons are why Has Bean deserves a spot on our list of the best specialty coffee roasters in the UK.

Workshop
The “Workshop” coffee roaster was created in 2011, 2 years after its creator, James Dickson, initially conceived of the concept after he was fired from an estate agency. James’s ambition was to “create a destination venue committed to an integrative process that yields genuinely good coffee.” James demanded input on the whole coffee supply chain, from bean procurement through roasting to brewing.
In 2011, James and his co-founders established their first café roasters, which was followed by a second within a few months. Due to the high quality of its whole bean coffee, the firm quickly started supplying other independent cafés as well. Their coffees are nothing short of extraordinary. They are wonderfully delicious and aromatic, exposing your eyes to the true potential of coffee when roasted with care.
In 2013, “Workshop” launched online sales of their specialty coffee. This means that the coffee could be delivered directly to the door of the coffee connoisseur!
