Petite Ermitage
This West Hollywood boutique jewel is located just off the Sunset Strip and features suites from Demi to rooftop Masters Quarters. These boho-chic rooms have European accents and overpowering charm, as well as enough fireplaces and vistas to make you never want to want to leave this urban retreat. If the attitude in Los Angeles is “rich hippy,” Petit Ermitage is the holiest site for bohemian pilgrims worldwide. The lobby is decorated with a jumble of mismatched furniture, antiques, and folk art, giving it the appearance of an eccentric aunt’s Topanga Canyon refuge.
Bedrooms have hand-carved wood accents, vibrant carpeting, and personal fireplaces. The 70s-themed hangout has a tiny gym and yoga programs, but the front desk staff will advise you to avoid the weights in favor of a trek in the local hills. Although the sea is a good thirty minutes away from the hotel’s West Hollywood location, Petit Ermitage provides the greatest alternative in the form of a saltwater rooftop pool. For a really Los Angeles experience, go for brunch and indulge in quinoa pancakes or a macrobiotic grain bowl. Petit Ermitage’s restaurant features unapologetically romantic candlelit corners and meticulously created, hearty-but-healthy California food.
View Los Angeles from every angle from the rooftop club, which features an outdoor pool, fireplaces, a bar, a patio,… And a garden of this hotel has been designated by the National Wildlife Federation as a hummingbird and butterfly refuge. Although the little, bohemian refuge offers free WiFi, you won’t want to use it much because of the tranquil gardens and unique, Mediterranean décor.

Peninsula Beverly Hills
The Peninsula emanates richness and was created to have the appearance and feel of a private estate. It’s difficult to think the Peninsula Beverly Hills can accommodate over 200 rooms and suites until you’re inside the hotel, which has beautifully maintained gardens with bellmen in white caps running back and forth. There are 16 independent private villas on the lushly landscaped grounds, along with 193 rooms and suites, all of which had significant renovations in 2011. It seems like there might only be a small group of people and you in this setting because it is so intimate and exclusive. Visitors are free to come and go as they like. If you want to be driven to Malibu in a Rolls Royce, no problem—there are monogrammed pillowcases and an entire fleet of house cars.
The main draw here is the gardens rather than its extravagant amenities, which also include a 60-foot rooftop pool and a deluxe spa. Many of the rooms have individual patios covered in bougainvillea and ivy, and the hotel’s lush rooftop garden creates an incredible location for a special lunch or dinner for two. It is advised to reserve one of the hotel’s famous afternoon teas, which are served in the lobby and are accompanied by a classical harpist, to truly complete the story. This is also one of the best hotels in L.A. with free WI-FI.
Peninsula Beverly Hills also provides a lap pool, rooftop garden, world-class spa, and fitness center. The stunning Club Bar, located just off the lobby, hosts entertainment most nights. One of Los Angeles’ favorite upscale eateries is The Belvedere, which provides traditional American fare with a gourmet touch, including macaroni & cheese. The entire time, white-glove service only enhances the upscale appeal.

Hotel Bel-Air
This historic, 1950s-era hotel is situated in the Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles and has flat-screen TVs in each of the rooms. The hotel offers a sizable garden and an on-site full-service spa. After a thorough two-year renovation, this opulent and subtly decadent 1920s Mission-style hotel, a lovely retreat on 12 fantasy acres of lush landscape, reopened in 2011.
Large windows and garden views can be found in the rooms at the Hotel Bel-Air. Modern furnishings and white bedding are included in the rooms. For the spa-inspired bathrooms, bathrobes come in adult and kid sizes.
Although there have been some impressive additions, such as new lofts and hillside suites, a La Prairie spa and fitness center, as well as upgraded room amenities, the general atmosphere has thankfully remained relatively unchanged. Visitors still enjoy spending long afternoons by the famous pool, meandering through the gardens, or subtly trying to spot which Hollywood actor is seated at the next table in the Wolfgang Puck restaurant. The romantic retreat is a quiet, garden-like getaway in the middle of the busy city. Hotel Bel-Air is also one of the best hotels in L.A. with free WI-FI.
The Bar & Lounge, which offers one fireplace, a grand piano, and views of the gardens, is open to guests. Wolfgang Puck is in charge of the Mediterranean fusion restaurant at the Hotel Bel-Air.

Millennium Biltmore
Since 1923, the storied Millennium Biltmore Hotel has been a renowned icon in Los Angeles. The Crystal Ballroom, where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded in 1927 and where the original “Oscar” statuette was sketched on a Biltmore napkin, is home to exquisite Spanish-Italian Renaissance architecture, including stunning hand-painted ceilings. Eight Academy Awards banquets were also held in the Biltmore Bowl during the 1930s and 1940s.
The ground floor is stunning, with spectacular rooms peeling off the lavish lobby one after the other. Some of them, like the Crystal Ballroom and the Gold Room, are only available for private hire, but if there isn’t an event going on and you ask politely at reception, someone will show you around. The apartments, which come with the modern luxury of free Wi-Fi, can hardly compete with such extravagance, but they are cozy in a traditional sense.
After High Tea in the Court, spend some time relaxing in the dry or wet sauna or the Roman-style pool at the Biltmore. The rooms themselves come equipped with the typical modern conveniences, such as wifi, coffee makers, and smart TVs, but the suites at the Biltmore are the epitome of luxury: The two-floor, three-bedroom Presidential Suite has been used by nine different POS, and the Music Suite has a baby grand piano and dinner service for up to ten people.

Beverly Wilshire
The lavish decor of this Beverly Wilshire, made famous by its appearance in Pretty Woman, evokes the majesty of 19th-century France, but modern touches like free WiFi and a restaurant designed by Richard Meier give it a 21st-century elegance. This hotel is housed in a magnificent Italian Renaissance structure that dates back to 1928. The stone exterior of the building has beautiful ornamental scenes etched onto it.
Nowhere is that more clear than in Beverly Wilshire’s Michelin-starred restaurant, CUT, a steakhouse built to impress: roasted Kurobuta pork chop and charcoal-grilled Porterhouse are just a couple of the dishes served in the stunning, all-white dining room, which doesn’t feel out of place in Soho. With spacious, cushioned seats and a cozy brasserie atmosphere, another restaurant, BLVD, is more laid-back. For a pre- or post-dinner martini, both restaurants include seductive lounge spaces.
Another feature is the unusual scallop-shaped pool, which makes a lovely setting for a business lunch or a relaxing spot to while away an afternoon with some headphones and a nice book. There is a full arsenal of cardio and weight training equipment in the bi-level gym, which is one of the biggest in any hotel in Los Angeles. Beverly Wilshire also has yoga sessions and private fitness coaches available. Elvis himself resided here for a while, and other A-listers and heads of state frequent the full-service spa, personal shopping, and private helicopter tours (not included in the cost).

The LINE
When the Sydell Group renovated a massive 1964 structure at the bustling intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, it took the city by storm when it reopened (NoMad Hotel, Ace Hotel).
