Kene Ilochonwu
Born and raised in Nigeria, Kene obtained her law degree from Abia State University in 1997 and her license from Nigerian Law School in Abuja in 2000. He then earned an LLM in Information Technology and Communications Law from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, Scotland, 2004.
Kene moved to Canada to complete a combination product for DLA Piper Canada and Imperial Oil. He then joined Blake, Casssels and Graydon as attorneys in 2017, where he currently serves as an attorney at Parkland Corporation.
Kene is a judge of the Alberta Law Society. He previously served in the Judicial Council Election Task Force of the Alberta Law Society and volunteered for the compulsory civil attorney project at Pro Bono Law Alberta. He also mentors law students through the mentoring programs of the University of Calgary Black Law Students’ Association and the Canadian Bar Association, and mentors internationally trained lawyers in Calgary through the Global Lawyers of Canada. Furthermore, he currently serves on the boards of Pro Bono Law Alberta, Calgary Black Chambers, Global Lawyers of Canada, and the Board of Our Savior Anglican Church in Calgary.
Kene Ilochonwu’s guidelines go beyond legal requirements. “Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” – this is from the Bible. “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Quotation by Nelson Mandela; And “one day you’ll talk about how you got through what you’re going through and you’ll be someone’s guide to survival,” I learned from American professor and author Brene Brown.

Donna Purcell, Q.C.
Primary office:Donna Purcell QC in civil action in Red Deer, Alberta. For 25 years, he has held leadership positions in a variety of public and legal organizations in midsize companies. Staying at the small, remote center entailed numerous trips, and to combine her professional and volunteer roles and support the family, Purcell turned to hybrid telemedicine when her first daughter was born. As a result, the transition to fully telemedicine during the pandemic has been a smooth one for her and her staff.
Then Donna Purcell QC moved on to solve new challenges for judicial access. This included the creation of a COVID-19 emergency response team within the Alberta Association of Civil Lawyers (ACTLA) and the Central Alberta Bar Association. A few days after the announcement, she hosted the Canadian Bar Association’s webinar (and a follow-up national podcast on telemedicine) about keeping small and individual businesses in uncertain times. At the suggestion of Chief Justice Moreau, she joined a small working group that developed the Alberta Protocol for remote interrogation. At the same time, she organized an innovative leader in the legal profession and judges, and produced a weekly series of free virtual trials. As Founding Director of the Central Alberta Legal Clinic Foundation, she is the Provincial Access to Justice Fundraising and Awareness Campaign: Lawyers vs. Talent, A2J: Virtual Edition, raising awareness for access to justice issues both pre-existing and created by COVID-19.
As two adult daughters pursue a career in the legal profession and know how difficult it is to achieve equality, diversity and career inclusion, Purcell believes that this profession has a proven track record of disruptive innovation to attract and retain more attorneys. Serve customers through an alternative service delivery model. In July 2020, she founded Donna Purcell QC Law, the first fully cloud-based law firm with hybrid brick, mortar and virtual clients with offices in Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer.
She added two internationally trained attorneys who needed Canadian articles. Purcell continues to advocate for technology adoption to maximize our ability to remain effective service providers during these difficult times, enjoy life outside the workplace, spend precious time with family, and contribute to society.

Marcus M. Sixta
Markus M. Sixta is a family attorney, mediator, and former social worker. He is the founder of Crossroads Law, a family-owned law firm based in British Columbia. He is also the founder of Coach My Case, a pioneering legal services firm that seeks to improve access to justice by providing remote legal trainers and paralegals for those who cannot afford traditional legal services and must defend themselves in court. Prior to the pandemic, Crossroads Law was featured in The Globe and Mail and Canadian Lawyer Magazine about innovative ways of working that included open offices and employees that could work from home. This approach, along with its promise of paperless use, allowed the Crossroads Act to not only survive but thrive during the pandemic.
Marcus launched Coach My Case in the spring of 2021 after years of watching self-proclaimed litigants struggle in the justice system. According to a report from the Department of Justice, in some provinces, up to 70% of all cases have at least one person representing them. This can have adverse consequences for individuals and place a significant strain on the judicial system.
Markus believes that access to justice can be improved through an alternative, client-centric model of providing legal services.
The Coach My Case allows self-identifying individuals to access legal assistance remotely across British Columbia. Or Albert. They can choose from paralegals or lawyers depending on their needs and budget, and they provide assistance in the background to better represent themselves in court. Services are available upon request and may include drafting, litigation and mediation, and investigation. Additionally, Coach My Case charges no fees, so fees and bills are low.
Marcus is also the public voice for access to justice in Canada. He has written articles for numerous publications and has appeared in many news reports related to judicial access, including CBC and Global News.
The driving force behind all his work is Marcus’s passion for giving back to society. He is a member of the Canadian BC Bar Association. Presentation on legal coaching topics for the Segmented Legal Services Commission and Bar Association of Canada. He is also a senior attorney at Pro Bono Students Canada, a member of the Alberta Law Society’s Family Law Practice Guidelines, and a board member of A Better City Vancouver.

Craig is a litigator and acts for clients in both commercial and business disputes. Moreover, His particular areas of specialization involve shareholder remedies, trust, pension and fiduciary disputes, securities and transactional litigation, product liability, mining disputes and real estate litigation. Brian A. Crane, QC
Brian Crane, a fellow at the American College of Litigation Lawyers, is a partner in the Gowling WLG office in Ottawa. As a senior member of the advocacy law group, he focuses on constitutional, administrative and indigenous law.
Brian has practiced in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Courts, and the Courts of Ontario. Anthony G. Creber
Tony Creber is Senior Partner of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa Office and former Canadian Head of Gowling WLG’s Litigation and Intellectual Property Strategy Group.
Tony has over 38 years of experience in intellectual property litigation and is recognized as one of Canada’s premier litigation experts. Tony focuses on chemical and pharmaceutical patent litigation, including serious patent infringement cases. Domenic A. Crolla
Domenic Kroll is a Partner at Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. In his practice, special attention is paid to his professional responsibilities and responsibilities for product quality, health law and information technology issues. Ronald E. Dimock
Ron Dimock is one of Canada’s leading intellectual property law enforcement officers, arbitrators and arbitrators. Recognized by Chambers as an “expert in Canadian intellectual property law”, Ron has practiced for 40 years as an attorney in landmark Canadian patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, including more than 50 federal court cases and 30 appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada and other Courts of Appeal.
