Barn at Five Lakes Resort

Built in the 1940’s, Five Lakes Resort was used as Mr. W. B. Bollenbach’s private hunting camp. The original Barn saw a variety of animals over the years until the Kaldahl family, former owners of Fair Hills Resort, purchased the Five Lakes property in 1976.

Not being in the farming business, Fair Hills used the Barn for other purposes. Many teens from the late `70s to late `80s remember coming out to Five Lakes and sleeping in the hay mow for a night away from parents. The `90s also saw staff excursions to the barn for team building outings.

In 2009, the Barn had fallen into enough disrepair that it was time to either give it a huge renovation or demolish it completely. In 2010, the barn began a redevelopment with the ultimate goal of accommodating the horses of Beth and Dan Shupp. Around this time, the ‘barn wedding’ trend began to appear, and the barn decided to host events instead of horses. . The barn renovation was completed in 2012 and the first wedding took place there in the fall of that year. The barn now hosts groups, meetings, parties and weddings every season. During winter, the lower floors serve as offices for the Fair Hills, Five Lakes and Wildflower Golf Courses, with tables occupied by stalls.

The area surrounding the Barn has gotten upgrades each season with the addition of the grand staircase, bridge, pathways and paved roads. Future projects include patios, a Milkhouse Bar and getready rooms.

Five Lakes Resort features eleven cabins ranging from one to three bedrooms. Each cabin features gorgeous views of Lake Five. All of the cabins have a full kitchen. Full-service staff can help with all the arrangements for your event.

Bloom Lake Barn

The current owners of Bloom Lake Barn purchased the once fully functional historic dairy barn and homestead in October of 2014 and began renovating in March of 2015 not knowing they were embarking on the most difficult and rewarding experience either of them could have imagined. Along the way there were so many road blocks that seemed like dead ends and plenty of people offering warnings and advice.

Set in the picturesque St. Croix Valley, the enormous wooden barn stands gorgeous with its vaulted ceilings, chandelier, and café lighting. You can stroll out to the courtyard, beneath the benevolent sun or crystallized starry night and enjoy the pavilion, bonfire pit, lawn games, and walking trail through the forest.

Mayowood Stone Barn

With their wedding packages, you will have exclusive access to the property for the entire day. Their team will set up the ceremony chairs under the reaching arms of an old oak tree or in the stunning vaulted Loft. Tables and natural wooden Chiavari Chairs will be available for your reception in the Carriage Way of the main barn, so furnishing can begin as early as 8:00 am. Many people will admire different things about the Mayowood Stone Barn. Perhaps it is the beautiful stone arches or the amazing giant bur oaks stretching over the grounds.

They may enjoy perusing the property, imagining Dr. Charlie Mayo and his family riding horses on the racetrack, or the crews he gave work to during the Great Depression creating the dragontooth stone walls surrounding the farm. Mostly, though, the most amazing thing about this place is the feeling of togetherness that occurs inside and out of these century-old stone walls.

From the views of the people who are here day in and day out, the magic of the Mayowood Stone Barn is in its versatility. The true beauty isn’t just the architecture or history, it is what happens each time a couple makes it their own. Different styles, budgets, families, hometowns, and group sizes all seem to feel at home here. We welcome the many ways they transform this space to convey the message of who they are.

Paddle at Voyageurs National Park

The Voyageurs National Park region was significant during the fur trade era because French-Canadian Voyageurs spent their entire lives traversing these waters in enormous canoes made of birch bark. Nowadays, you may still take the same routes by land and water, and you can even sleep at the Wooden Frog Campground, which is regarded as one of Minnesota’s top campgrounds.

The park is well-known for its exceptional water resources and is a favorite with fisherman, kayakers, canoeists, and other boaters. Only boats can access the Kabetogama Peninsula, which makes up the majority of the park’s land area and is totally contained inside it. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is to the park’s east.

This park is in the backcountry and is primarily reachable by air or boat. In light of this, it makes for a great location for sailing, canoeing, and taking part in other outdoor activities. The park’s perimeter is home to a number of boat ramps and tourist centers, but the park’s main area can only be reached by boat or, during the winter, by snowmobile, ski, or snowshoe. The park welcomed 239,656 visitors in 2018.

Visit the Minnesota State Capitol Building

TripAdvisor Rating:The Minnesota State Capitol Building, which was built between 1896 and 1905, has lately undergone renovations to bring back its historic edifice to its former glitz. Along with restoring the interior’s furniture, repairs were made to the exterior’s marble.

Every day of the week, you can take a tour of the capitol, and you can explore the second “Grand” floor, the Rotunda, and the Governor’s Reception Room on your own. The Quadriga, a statue of a four-horse chariot made of gold, can be found outside the main gate.

This Beaux-Arts structure in Saint Paul houses the state’s executive branch and is tucked away on a gorgeously planted campus. The official listing of the Minnesota State Capitol on the National Register of Historic Places dates back to 1972. Due to the extensive recent renovations, the building also appears to be very glitzy.

You will admire the renovated interior decor as well as the external marble. Take a 45-minute free guided tour of the legislature. The large first-floor rotunda, the golden outside horses, the House and Senate chambers, and the Civil War artworks are among the highlights.
