Lake Winnipeg

One of the most beautiful lakes in Manitoba is Lake Winnipeg. When Manitobans want to get away from the city in the summer, they go to Lake Winnipeg. Lake Winnipeg, the remains of a huge glacial lake, varies depending on where you are.

Depending on which coast you are on and how far south or north you travel, the lake’s 416 km length presents a variety of faces. While the east side is shorter and has fewer access points, the west shoreline is longer, more accessible, and has more settlements.

Victoria Beach, a summer vacation destination, and Grand Beach Provincial Park are both located on the east side of the lake. You may find both gorgeous beaches and rocky shorelines in this area. This is the lake’s side with the roughest waters since the predominant winds out of the west push the waves up against the beach. On this side of the lake, the sunsets are magnificent.

The one thing that both sides have in common is warm water. The entire lake is shallow and a little bit gray. Early in the summer, the water warms up quickly as a result. Accommodations are abundant. You can book a cottage rental, stay in a bed & breakfast, book a cheap or expensive hotel room, or pitch a tent at one of the numerous public or exclusive campgrounds.

Falcon Lake

Southeast Manitoba, Canada’s Whiteshell Provincial Park is home to Falcon Lake. The lake is located close to the Ontario border on the Trans-Canada Highway about 152 kilometers east of Winnipeg. Pierre Falcon, a Métis poet, and musician has the lake given his name (1793–1876). It can be seen on the 1865 Palliser map.

Although the fictional town of Falcon Beach is based on a different Manitoba lake, the lake served as the inspiration for the show’s name. In addition, Neil Young, who wrote the song “Falcon Lake” while playing with Buffalo Springfield, made the lake one of his favorite summertime destinations.

With good reason, Falcon Lake is one of Whiteshell Provincial Park’s busiest lakes. The lake is big and well-liked for leisurely boating and hunting down the elusive fishing hot spot. Its shoreline is peppered with beaches, which offer sand oases along the primarily forested, privately owned shorelines. Falcon Lake is the only place to look. Children of all ages can play safely in the calm, warm water and expansive, curved beach.

West Hawk

Whiteshell Provincial Park is home to West Hawk Lake, an impact crater lake on the Whiteshell River in southeast Manitoba, Canada. The submerged West Hawk crater, which was created by a meteor impacting an ancient granite rock bed, is what gave the lake’s main body its circular shape. It is Manitoba’s deepest lake, measuring 115 meters.

Parts of the lake are surrounded by granite cliffs. The Canadian Shield, which developed billions of years ago, includes this region. Extensive performances constructed by First Nation peoples, possibly over a thousand years ago, can be found in some areas of Whiteshell Park. Turtle, snake, human, and geometrical perform formations can be seen on pink granite ridges that were sculpted during the last ice period.

West Hawk Lake is deep and transparent, a favorite among scuba divers, and is well-known for Crescent Beach, a sizable beach near the southern end. When a meteor struck the rock of the Whiteshell Provincial Park 100 million years ago, it caused a powerful upheaval that resulted in the formation of the lake. You will be swimming in only rainwater when you put your toe into the frigid waters of the lake because there are no rivers that flow into it. There is a tiny town with stores, eateries, and a grocery store on the lake’s edge.

Clear Lake

The main town site in the well-liked tourist destination Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, Canada, is called Clear Lake. It is situated alongside Highway 10 near the Riding Mountain National Park’s south entrance. This township is located 62 miles (99 km) north of Brandon. The largest lake in Riding Mountain National Park, Clear Lake, on whose south borders it is located, is nearby.

In keeping with its moniker, the lake is enormous, deep, and crystal clear. Getting out on the lake and exploring it is the greatest way to enjoy it. Bring your own boat or rent one that is motorized or unpowered. Take a dinner cruise on the 95-seat Martese in the afternoon or evening if you’d prefer to let someone else do the driving and navigating.

Try your luck casting a line into the lake’s diverse population of fish, which includes pickerel (walleye), northern pike, bass, and smaller panfish. The lake offers beautiful beaches away from the water, and the water is so transparent you’ll swear you’re swimming in rainwater. Clear Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Manitoba.

Brereton Lake

Beautiful Brereton Lake, just north of Rennie on Provincial Highway 307, is home to a sizable cottage community, two resorts, a kids’ camp, and a religious camp. It is two hours east of Winnipeg. Brereton Lake is the ideal home for individuals who prefer tranquil days and nights in serene and picturesque settings, as evidenced by the numerous photos of sunsets and tiny islands taken here.

There are three free public beaches on the lake, one each in the south (South Beach), middle (Main Beach), and north (Inverness Falls). Golden sand and mild, shallow water can be found on all beaches. The park staff just put up a brand-new set of kiddie play areas at Main Beach.

A short distance from Main Beach, the Brereton Lake Resort offers cozy cottages for rent. It also boasts a well-liked restaurant and a well-stocked convenience shop. Big Whiteshell Lake

Southeast Manitoba, Canada’s Whiteshell Provincial Park has Big Whiteshell Lake. The lake sits near the end of Provincial Road 309, which is located around 162 kilometers east of Winnipeg. When employees from the Manitoba Home for Boys in Portage La Prairie attempted to build a road through the Whiteshell Forest Reserve from Rennie to Green Lake in the 1930s, that is when the path from Rennie to Big Whiteshell Lake was first built.

Brereton Lake has a big brother named Big Whiteshell Lake. This sizable body of water, which can be found in the northern part of Whiteshell Provincial Park, is a wonderful illustration of a gorgeous boreal forest lake.

The lake is a well-liked summertime tourist attraction for hiking, fishing, and other outdoor pursuits. Big Whiteshell is highly known for its fishing, and due to its spaciousness, power boating is a common activity there. Tenting or RV parking are two possible forms of lodging at the primary campground. The main campground has a fantastic beach, and the water is nice and reasonably shallow.

White Lake

The next position on the list of the most beautiful lakes in Manitoba is White Lake. It is the primary geographical feature of Clearwater Lake Provincial Park in western Manitoba, which is situated northeast of The Pas.

The three adjectives that best describe Clearwater Lake are deep, clear, and chilly. This lake, which is 6.5 hour drive from Winnipeg, is unique and worth the effort to visit. You can see down to a startling 10 meters in the lake because it is so clear (33 feet). You might experience a more Caribbean-like feeling than being in northern Manitoba.

Power boating is common, and sailing is also a nice activity here. The fact that White Lake is among the top places in the province to fish for lake trout will excite anglers. To catch this cold-water species, you’ll need a downrigger setup on your boat because it hides out in Clear Lake’s depths. Here, camping is a well-liked activity. There are 79 campsites at Campers Cove, several of which have electricity, as well as basketball and volleyball courts, as well as a nearby play structure for kids.

Lake Manitoba

Lake Manitoba is another enormous lake in the territory. This lake is less well-known than Lake Winnipeg and less populated, but it’s still a fantastic destination. The main attractions of Lake Manitoba are in the Interlake region, around 1.5 hours from Winnipeg.

Particularly well-known for its birds is the area around Delta Beach on Lake Manitoba. Numerous diverse types of aquatic birds and the bird-watchers who follow them are drawn to the huge marshes at the lake’s base. There is a lot of free water to explore along the spectacular 200-kilometer length of the lake. The further south is where most of the popular areas are.

The beach at Delta, the beach at Watchorn Provincial Park, the beach at St. Ambroise Provincial Park, and the beach at Lundar Beach Provincial Park are all excellent.

The majority of the beaches have golden brown sands and shallow water, making them ideal for wading or small children, with the exception of St. Ambroise Beach Provincial Park beach, where the sand is a little more white. Sandbars are frequently found just offshore. If you have the time, consider traveling to the lake’s northern region to experience Steep Rock’s breathtaking scenery. Massive limestone cliffs plunge down into the lake. There are adjacent campgrounds and a beach.

Little Limestone Lake

Little Limestone Lake is a lake that may be found in Little Limestone Lake Provincial Park in northern Manitoba, Canada. It is situated about 500 km north of Winnipeg and 65 km north of Grand Rapids. It is situated in the Manitoba Lowlands’ 4,095-hectare Little Limestone Lake Park Reserve, a karst geology example. The Mosakahiken Cree Nation’s traditional area includes the eastern shore. IUCN has designated Little Limestone Lake Park Reserve as a protected area. It was set aside primarily to preserve a particular natural feature with exceptional or unique value.

The biggest marl lake in the world, which is a lake rich in calcium carbonate, is Little Limestone Lake. When the weather gets warm, the marl transforms into calcite and separates from the water, forming crystals and giving the lake its turquoise color. But when it cools, the calcite disintegrates, lowering the marl level and making the water crystal clear. The lake will change color throughout the year, therefore the vista will vary depending on the season. Late summer is when the turquoise color is at its best, so make your plans accordingly and bring your camera!
